Exploring Ayia Napa & Cape Greco in 1 day
If you have a day to explore the areas then a private tour with someone like Athena at LA Taxis or a quad bike / car is a great way to discover some of the highlights. However, with so many to choose from it can be a bit overwhelming. When we write our blogs, we write it from our own experiences, the way we structure our days when we have guests visiting from abroad. We have certainly had our fair share of guests and I am a little bit of a perfectionist when it comes to showing people arround our island. If you have more time, then you could split this trip up but if you want to get as much in as possible this is how we would do it. 🙂
Today our route starts in Protaras:
- Nissi beach and toumb of the kings
- Ayia Napa harbour
- Art sculpture park
- Sea caves and lovers tree
- Konos beach and cliff bar
Nissi beach is probably one of the most well known beaches on the island. Its beautiful crystal clear waters, sandy beaches and the island that connects the beaches are just one reason for its popularity. It is also well known for its atmosphere as a party beach and is certainly more suited to adults.
Just up from Nissi beach is the Macronisos tombs. It is only a small site of 19 tombs but cool to check out if you are visiting this area.
Macronisos tombs was an interesting find for the Ayia Napa region. 19 tombs and a small alter were excavated between 1989 and 1990 by the municipality of Ayia Napa. The dead were originally place in clay sarcophagus which were covered with 3 flat tiles. All of the toumbs are alike in style and the alter is a simple square.
Opening hours: 09:00 – 17:00
Ayia Napa Harbour
If you need a quick refreshment or maybe breakfast, head down to Ayia Napa harbour. There is lots of restaruats there and you will be able to see the traditional fishing boats.
Art Sculpture Park
The art sculpture park is a beautiful area to take a wander arround. From artists all arround the world you can find some very unique art sculptures. The park has grown in size over the years and also links to the cactus park. Both of these sites are free entrance. Just note there is no shade as you are wandering the park so it is advisable to avoid peek heat times of the day. 🙂
Sea Caves & lovers tree
The sea caves are a wonder of their own and an absoloute must see on your trip. Just wandering the top of the cliffs and seeing the beauty of the caves from above is amazing, you can also climb down in to the small cave (at your own risk) which is stunning to be inside this world of natural beauty. It used to be a popular local cliff jumping spot (however in recent years it has been banned due to tourists getting injured). As you leave the dirt path back to the main road you will see the popular lovers tree on the right. The detail on this tree is absoloutely amazing.
Konos Beach & Cliff Bar
After all this sightseeing you will certainly want a refreshment. Nip in to the grecian park hotel and go through to the cliff bar which overlooks Konos beach. This is a stunning place to relax for a while. At the end of your rest stop, head down to Konos beach and finish your day with a swim at this extrodinary beach. 🙂
